In the light of global warming, what will Notting Hill look like in 2050? That is the theme of the unique audio/visual exhibition presented by MyTherapy, a visual effects and interactive design company, in collaboration with a number of audio visual artists, VJs and DJs.
The extraordinary exhibition content draws upon the research of several respected organisations, and uses NASA data, to visualize the likely effects of global warming.
The exhibition features graphic and artistic representations of Notting Hill in 2050 based upon the fact that we do make the requisite changes to our behaviour. It contains details and examples of simple things that we can do to make that fundamental difference.
By focusing on a recognised environment, MyTherapy wants to bring home to people just how personal is the impact of global warming. Doing nothing is no longer an option for anybody.
The exhibition was running from 22 February 2007 to 13 March 2007 at the Salon Gallery, 82 Westbourne Grove.

The capability of heat pumps drawing heat from the ground to reduce carbon emissions is being demonstrated to its limits by a project at the National Centre for Energy at Milton Keynes. A heat pump with an output of 13 kW is combined with a solar photo-voltaic array that can generate up to 6.47 kW of electricity. Ian Byrne, deputy director of the National Energy Foundation explains that on a bright sunny afternoon in winter, the PV array generates enough electricity for the heat pump to heat the building and produce domestic hot water, so that these services are provided with no carbon emissions at all. There are also solar panels to produce domestic hot water. Read more here

Greenpeace is asking you to take part in an energy revolution. To go from a world powered by nuclear and fossil fuels to one running on renewable energy. Human caused climate change is a reality. Fortunately, there are proven energy solutions we can put to use today to provide sustainable development and energy for all. Will this energy transformation occur rapidly enough to avert the worst effects of a warming world? You will help decide the answer to that question.

If you live in or around Notting Hill - the answer is NO!
Below is the map of West London with projected elevation data provided by NASA. The blue area represents the sea level rises of 8 meters.
The map is fully interactive and if you follow the link below you are even going to be able to zoom in using standard Googlemap API.
Since there is a discussion of sea level rises between 6 and 14 meters, the option of being optimistic or pessimistic as you wish is left to you. These settings are adjustable.

Greenpeace have produced an ‘aspirational’ advertisement, taking the piss out of traditional adverts that connect flashy 4×4s to the driver’s identity and status.

It is already too late to stop any further atmospheric warming - due to the inertia of our climate system. Even if we could reduce greenhouse gas emissions to pre-industrial levels, average temperatures will not stabilise for several centuries. Sea levels will continue to rise for several millennia due to thermal expansion and the melting ice-caps.
However, we can slow down the rate of warming by simple changes to our lifestyles such as:
– bicycling instead of using the car
– using renewable energy sources
– the adoption of carbon-free transport

Although aviation currently accounts for only 3.5 per cent of total greenhouse gas emissions, it is one of the fastest growing sources of greenhouse gas emissions; because aviation also has the highest growth rate as a mode of transport, emissions from air travel are projected to increase five-fold by 2050.
